Article Types

Acta Informatica Pragensia has four types of contributions:

Article: This includes three subtypes.

  • Empirical and constructive research: These submissions contain a strong empirical component, for example, present and analyse primary data from a case study, survey, experiment, etc., or offer new perspectives on secondary data synthesis from various sources. In addition, we particularly welcome design science research contributions. The primary reviewing criteria include originality, research rigor and relevance for industrial practice. All contributions must refer to the previously established body of knowledge in the given field of study. Articles should describe the aims, background study, research questions / technical research problem/hypothesis, methods, results and interpretation of the research. We strongly encourage authors to present a sufficient level of description of their research approach and method.
  • Perspective and conceptual research: In this category, the journal publishes theoretical ideas offering new insights, or promising conceptual papers. Perspective presents a viewpoint on a specific area of investigation, discusses current advances, future directions or prevalent ideas. These are usually essays that present a personal point of view (critique) supported by a comprehensive literature review.
  • Industrial viewpoint and experience: This category opens Acta Informatica Pragensia for practitioners and establishes a platform where practitioners and scholars come together. The goal is to report results and insights from the industry. The contributions have a strong experience and learning component, which does not necessarily have to be grounded in research data. However, providing supporting original evidence is always preferable. The primary reviewing criteria include the importance of any lessons that can be learned from the presented findings and their relevance for industrial practice. Originality is a secondary criterion; these papers are not expected to extensively review scholarly literature in the field. However, the papers always present a form of literature review, possibly also containing practitioner literature and "grey" literature.

Review: This type of contribution gives an overview of existing literature in a field, often identifying specific problems or issues and analysing information from available published work on the topic with comprehensive depth and provides a balanced perspective. Review articles should not merely summarize the literature but provide precise updates on the latest progress made in a given area of research. This type of contribution should present a complete overview of the state of the art as well as a discussion, e.g., of different schools of thought, controversies, fundamental concepts, issues, current research gaps and potential future developments in the field. The originality of contribution and depth of insight are the primary reviewing criteria. Systematic reviews should follow the PRISMA guidelines.

Editorial: Editorial materials include news, information about reviewers, introductions to special issues, commentaries and opinion pieces. This type of contribution is usually written by an Editorial Board member(s) or Special Issue Editor(s).

Miscellanea: This type of article presents trends, conference reports, brief research reports, information about research projects, book reviews, conceptual papers or anniversaries.

The journal considers all original research manuscripts provided that the work reports on sound original results/analysis and provides a substantial amount of new information. The Article and Review contribution types are reviewed in a double-blind peer review process by at least two independent reviewers. The Miscellanea contribution type is evaluated by a member of the Editorial Board or a selected reviewer. The Editorial contribution type is not subject to review. More information can be found in Peer Review Process and Editorial Procedures.
